Luck is not the thing that happens to you. That part is happenstance, and it rains on everybody, constantly, whether or not anyone is in a position to use it.
Luck is the word for what happens when happenstance lands on somebody who was prepared for it. Same event, unprepared person, nothing. They usually don’t even register that it went past.
So luck isn’t something you wait around for. If you want more of it, it isn’t going to come to you on its own. You go out, you prepare, and then it shows up.
I’ve stopped caring whether the preparing catches opportunities that were already falling or creates ones that would never have existed otherwise. From the inside you can’t tell the difference, and the lever is the same either way, so the distinction is somebody else’s argument.
None of which is a guarantee. Plenty of people prepare and the happenstance never arrives. That’s how life works.
But if you aren’t prepared, it’s a guaranteed 0%.
